No it's not road kill. The Flatbyrd is a pancake-flat folding knife so slim it slides in a back pocket skinnier than your wallet the day before payday. The handle is pinch-free contoured aluminum with holes like Swiss cheese. The holes reduce the knife's weight while giving a contemporary, technical look. 8Cr13MoV is the blade steel currently found on the entire byrd Line. It's a high carbon, chrome/molybdenum/vanadium steel that holds hard, retaining a long-term sharp cutting edge. The blade is available with a plain edge or combination edge and is flat ground with the recognizable byrd comet opening hole.
Integrated into the back of the handle is the locking device. It releases the blade when you press the lever positioned inside the largest handle hole which is located near where blade and handle meet. By integrating the lock into the handle scale there are fewer moving parts that can wear or require adjustment. There is no pocket clip on the Flatbyrd, instead is carries flat in any pocket or purse, even tucked inside a boot.
Care and Maintenance
Care and Maintenance
To keep your Spyderco knife performing at its best, clean the blade with warm soapy water and a soft cloth after use. For tougher grime, gently scrub with a soft toothbrush. If debris accumulates, use compressed air to clear the pivot and hard-to-reach areas. Ensure your knife is completely dry before applying a drop of lubricant to the pivot for smooth operation. Avoid disassembling your knife unless absolutely necessary, and always follow proper reassembly practices. Store your knife in a dry place and avoid prolonged contact with moisture.
