Spyderco | Police Model 4 K390 - Black
One of the most recognizable and enduring folding knives ever made, the iconic Police Model has been a mainstay of Spyderco’s product line since its introduction in the 1980’s. It has also been the subject of years of relentless Constant Quality Improvement (C.Q.I.) that ultimately led to the current fourth-generation version of the design—the Police 4.
The Police 4’s broad, full-flat-ground, PlainEdge™ blade is precision machined from Böhler-Uddeholm K390, an advanced particle metallurgy tool steel enriched with high volumes of vanadium, tungsten, and cobalt. This advanced alloy composition allows it to offer exceptional edge retention and toughness; however, since it is not a stainless steel, care should be taken to maintain it properly to protect it from corrosion.
A fully accessible Trademark Round Hole™ proudly announces the knife’s pedigree and allows swift, ambidextrous, one-handed opening. It also features a textured index-finger choil and thumb ramp for maximum control with a “choked-up” forward grip.
The Police 4’s handle construction includes skeletonized full stainless steel liners, a solid steel back spacer, and textured G-10 scales that collectively ensure maximum structural strength and a secure grip in even the most demanding conditions. A mid-positioned back lock locks the blade securely open when in use, but is easily operated one-handed with either hand. This ambidextrous theme is further supported by a black, four-position hourglass clip that allows all possible carry preferences.
Care and Maintenance
Care and Maintenance
To keep your Spyderco knife performing at its best, clean the blade with warm soapy water and a soft cloth after use. For tougher grime, gently scrub with a soft toothbrush. If debris accumulates, use compressed air to clear the pivot and hard-to-reach areas. Ensure your knife is completely dry before applying a drop of lubricant to the pivot for smooth operation. Avoid disassembling your knife unless absolutely necessary, and always follow proper reassembly practices. Store your knife in a dry place and avoid prolonged contact with moisture.
