Spyderco | Proficient
The Spyderco Proficient takes the concept of the traditional “do-all” bushcraft knife and elevates it to new levels of performance with state-of-the-art materials and manufacturing methods. Designed by wilderness expert Chris Claycomb of Bushcraft UK, the Proficient functions perfectly with traditional bushcraft skills and cutting methods while offering superior durability, edge retention, cutting performance, and corrosion resistance.
Instead of traditional carbon steel and an axe-like “Scandi” (Scandinavian) grind, the Proficient’s blade is crafted from vanadium-rich CPM® S90V particle-metallurgy stainless steel and boasts a full-flat grind for low-friction cutting performance.
The scales of its full-tang handle are painstakingly machined from solid carbon fiber. They are then carefully contoured and polished to eliminate hot spots and ensure maximum comfort during prolonged use. A lined lanyard hole allows for easy attachment of a lanyard, wrist strap, or security cord and along with two blind stainless steel bolts permanently secures the scales to the tang. The Proficient’s only bow to tradition is its handsomely crafted leather pouch-style sheath configured for convenient belt carry.
Care and Maintenance
Care and Maintenance
To keep your Spyderco knife performing at its best, clean the blade with warm soapy water and a soft cloth after use. For tougher grime, gently scrub with a soft toothbrush. If debris accumulates, use compressed air to clear the pivot and hard-to-reach areas. Ensure your knife is completely dry before applying a drop of lubricant to the pivot for smooth operation. Avoid disassembling your knife unless absolutely necessary, and always follow proper reassembly practices. Store your knife in a dry place and avoid prolonged contact with moisture.
